In October 2025, thousands of Kenyans packed Nairobi's Kasarani Stadium to pay their final respects to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. But as tensions flared near the VIP section, gunfire erupted inside the stadium.

Three men, all fathers, never made it home.

BBC Africa Eye analysed more than 1,500 photos and videos, alongside post-mortem evidence and eyewitness testimony, to reconstruct the deadly events of that day.

Creating a 3D replica of the stadium, our investigation finds the three victims were far from the confrontation that preceded the shooting and traces the movements of a specialist VIP police protection unit whose members fired their weapons inside the stadium.

Why don't we eat breadfruit? One tree can grow around two hundred fruits a year, for half a century, with no ploughing and no sowing. Roasted, it looks and eats like fresh bread. It grows across the whole tropical belt, where most of the world's hungry people live. So why have you probably never tasted one?

The answer runs through a three-thousand-year voyage across the Pacific, the most famous mutiny in history, a second voyage that landed 690 trees in the Caribbean, and the people they were meant to feed, who did not want them. At the end we put breadfruit through the five tests every world food has to pass, and find the one thing wheat has and breadfruit never will.

The Port of Lamu has recorded a major commercial milestone after receiving the Hamouna, the largest vessel ever to dock at a Kenyan port. Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto says the 366-metre vessel has a capacity of more than 14,500 containers and is expected to offload about 4,200 containers at the Port of Lamu. The arrival of the vessel demonstrates Lamu County’s growing role in Kenya’s maritime trade, reflecting continued progress in commercial operations at the facility.
