Luhya Circumcision Documentary 2025 | The Bukusu Embalu Tradition Explained (Waltech Production)

This documentary explores the deep cultural meaning behind the Luhya circumcision ceremony, known locally as Imbalu — one of Kenya’s most respected traditional rites of passage.

Filmed in Bungoma County, this story reveals how young boys are prepared, celebrated, and transformed into men through music, dance, and community unity.
Featuring songs from legendary Luhya artists like Steve Kay, Sammy Mangara, Opeta wa Musungu, Papa Sowetoo, and Godricks Kitui Wanyonyi, this film captures the rhythm and pride of a people deeply rooted in heritage.

From the traditional songs and ululations to the emotional moments of courage, this is more than a documentary — it’s a preservation of identity, bravery, and African tradition.
