Is Kenya really as cheap as everyone says? 🇰🇪 After moving our family from the U.S. to Nairobi, we quickly learned that the cost of moving to Kenya and the cost of actually living in Kenya are two VERY different things.

In this video, we’re breaking down what it has actually cost our family to get settled and live in Nairobi — based on our real experience so far.

We’re talking about housing and rent, deposits, furnishing an empty home, groceries, transportation, utilities, household expenses, eating out, one-time setup costs, and our current monthly cost of living.

We also share what has been surprisingly affordable, what has NOT been as cheap as we expected, and how much money we would personally bring if we were moving to Kenya all over again knowing what we know now.

Why don't we eat breadfruit? One tree can grow around two hundred fruits a year, for half a century, with no ploughing and no sowing. Roasted, it looks and eats like fresh bread. It grows across the whole tropical belt, where most of the world's hungry people live. So why have you probably never tasted one?

The answer runs through a three-thousand-year voyage across the Pacific, the most famous mutiny in history, a second voyage that landed 690 trees in the Caribbean, and the people they were meant to feed, who did not want them. At the end we put breadfruit through the five tests every world food has to pass, and find the one thing wheat has and breadfruit never will.
